Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will hold its 121st open auction on 24 October, with 60 distinctive vehicle plates up for sale. The event is at the Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City Hotel. Registration opened on 19 October, Khaleej Times reported.
The lots include plates of two, three, four and five digits. The letter codes are AA, BB, CC, H, U, V, W, X, Y and Z. Among the two-digit numbers are BB 80, BB 18 and CC 44.
Registration is available on the RTA website, rta.ae, and in person at the Customer Happiness Centres in Umm Ramool, Deira and Al Barsha. Bidders need a traffic file in Dubai. Guests can enter the venue from 2pm on the day of the auction.
Each bidder must hand over a cheque for Dh25,000 as a security deposit. Those who do not win a plate get it back. Khaleej Times also reported a Dh120 participation fee, which is not refunded.
Winners owe 5 per cent VAT in addition to the price of the plate. They have 10 working days from the auction to pay. A late payment can cost the bidder the deposit, and Khaleej Times said the person may also be placed on the RTA's register of non-compliant bidders.
No cap on the number of plates one buyer can purchase is stated, as long as the approved terms and conditions are followed.
Gulf News noted that the previous auction, in December 2025, brought in Dh109 million in total plate sales.
For car owners in Dubai, the auction is a way to obtain a personalised plate. Visitors who prefer not to buy can look at rental options in the DoBy cars catalog.
