The 10th Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) starts on 31 October, with free fitness activities at locations across the city. Participants are asked to exercise for 30 minutes a day for 30 days. Walking, running, cycling, sport and workout classes all count. Gulf News reported the details on 19 October.
This year the programme has three free Fitness Villages and over 23 Community Fitness Hubs. According to the report, they host thousands of activities pitched at different ages and ability levels. The challenge is open to residents and visitors. Gulf News says the first nine editions drew more than 16 million participants.
Fitness Villages
Al Warqa’a Park has group classes at the main stage, a running club and a 2.8km track for walking, jogging and cycling. It also has an obstacle course, courts for basketball, football, volleyball, tennis and padel, and children's activities. Courts can be booked ahead. Bicycles can be rented, and a fee may apply.
Zabeel Park, in central Dubai, has a three-tier gym and group sessions at the main stage. The line-up includes boxing, mixed martial arts (MMA) and HIIT. Basketball, cricket and padel facilities are also on site, and courts can be reserved in advance.
Kite Beach offers outdoor sessions by the sea: spinning, rebounder fitness, MMA, and strength and conditioning. Visitors can reserve courts in advance to secure a preferred session.
Registration
Registration, activity schedules and booking details are on the official website, www.dubaifitnesschallenge.com.
For visitors in Dubai during the challenge, the sites above are public parks and a beach, and the activities are free, so no gym membership is needed. Those who still need a place to stay can look at hotels in the city.
