Dubai Police issued 48,950 fines to motorists whose vehicle registration had lapsed, covering the period from January to October 2026, according to figures reported on 1 November. January had the highest monthly total.

The offence costs the driver Dh500, four traffic points and seven days of impoundment. The details were given by Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, who heads traffic at Dubai Police. Khaleej Times describes the points as black points.

January had 6,977 violations. February followed with 6,768 and March with 6,573. In fourth place was July, with 6,404 cases.

Bin Suwaidan said an expired registration can create safety risks, because a vehicle may skip its periodic technical inspection. These checks pick up faults in tyres, brakes, lighting and steering. Mechanical problems left unfixed could cause breakdowns and accidents, he said.

If insurance has also lapsed and the driver is in a crash, further financial and legal consequences are possible.

Police urged motorists to keep track of registration and insurance expiry dates and to arrange inspections on time. Fines can be checked and paid, and registration renewed, through smart services run by Dubai Police and other authorities. Bin Suwaidan also advised owners to clear unpaid fines quickly instead of letting them build up.

For residents and visitors who drive in Dubai, whether in their own car or one from a rental fleet, the registration expiry date is worth checking, since a lapse brings impoundment as well as the fine.

Gulf News reported the figures, and Khaleej Times carried the same numbers.
